Plant Spirit Medicine is a form of spiritual healing which combines the traditions of ancient Chinese Five Element medicine and the indigenous practice of using plant spirits for healing. It is a spiritual healing technique that has its roots in ancestral traditions, and though it has been largely forgotten in our society, it has been practiced in one form or another by medicine people around the world throughout time.
Unlike many other plant based healing modalities, in Plant Spirit Medicine no part of the physical plant is used or administered, but rather the spirit of the plant is called upon and it offers its help.
Plant Spirit Medicine treatments over time, not only re-awaken and fortify our connection with Spirit and with the natural world, but through reaching into the deepest layers of a person, the plants bring balance and support to our core. Over time, and from that deep place, the healing grows and unfolds into a blossoming that reaches up through the layers of years of complexity and compensation, establishing harmony and wellbeing throughout the entire system. Over and over again, I have experienced and seen this ancient medicine bring deep healing, upliftment and transformation to all areas of a persons life, as it carries us away from feeling separate and into a life of wholeness, flow and joy.

Karla Refoxo, is a graduate of the Plant Spirit Medicine healer training program taught by Eliot Cowan and Alison Gayek at the Blue Deer Center in New York state. She currently resides and treats people in Santa Barbara CA and is a member of the Temple of Sacred Fire Healing and the Plant Spirit Medicine Association.
My own personal healing journey with Plant Spirits began many years ago, and I came to find the man who would eventually become my teacher—Eliot Cowan—through a dream.
Years after meeting him, at a time when I was in the midst of profound change and deep pain in my life, I was guided to see a Plant Spirit Medicine practitioner for treatments. Slowly, and over time, my life was profoundly transformed as the ground rose up under me—supporting me, giving me clearer eyes from which to see, more sensitive ears with which to listen, and a stronger heart, with which to love.
I initiated this journey as a way to heal myself, but through the grace of Spirit and the Plants, I have found my strength, and been given many gifts to share with the world. At a time when our people yearn and thirst for connection and healing, I am deeply honored to be able to share some of what I have received. May the Grace and generosity that the plants have shined on my life through this medicine, come through my hands and shine on yours. May it bring you healing, connection and joy, and may your life be brighter because of it.
